Charlie Wood – YOUR LOVE IS MY HOME

Zu den Songs gehören Paul Simons Still Crazy After All These Years (‚Ich hatte immer das Gefühl, dieses Lied handelt von mir‘), Sam Cookes You Send Me, John Lennons Love sowie zeitlose Standards wie Stardust und Willow, Weep for Me.

During Jazzahead in Bremen, Charlie Wood found himself talking music—and life—with Peter Littauer and Søren Friis of Denmark’s Stunt Records / Sundance Music. Wood mentioned he’d just recorded a handful of new songs with a trio.

“Send it to us,” they said.

That simple invitation sparked a collaboration that would soon grow into YOUR LOVE IS MY HOME—an album that feels less like a genre statement and more like a heartfelt declaration: of love for music, for people, and for the places that shape us.

Born in 1967 and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Wood came of age in one of America’s most storied musical cities. On Beale Street, genres dissolve nightly as blues, jazz, soul, and rock are  thrown into the same pot—creating a sound that’s hard to define, but instantly recognizable.

You know it when you hear it,” Wood says. “That’s the tradition I’m lucky to be part of. Growing up, I was obsessed with Elvis, but I’ve never thought much about genre—only whether it feels right and has that special Memphis thing.”

At just 17, Wood left for New Orleans, immersing himself in the city’s piano traditions and easygoing musical spirit. By his early twenties, he was touring internationally as Albert King’s keyboardist, an experience that left a lasting imprint on his groove, touch, and musical authority.

Back in Memphis, Wood became a fixture on Beale Street, holding a long-running residency at King’s Palace Café with his Hammond organ trio. Night after night, he refined a signature sound: earthy, swinging, soulful, and effortless.

Over the years, he has shared stages with legends including B.B. King, Georgie Fame, Joey DeFrancesco, George Coleman, Mulgrew Miller, and Alvin Batiste. In 2014, his contributions were formally recognized with a Brass Note on Beale Street—Memphis’ answer to the Hollywood Walk of Fame—placing him alongside icons such as B.B. King, Al Green, and Isaac Hayes.

Now based in the U.K., Wood is married to acclaimed British jazz vocalist Jacqui Dankworth and continues to tour and record on both sides of the Atlantic. Half of YOUR LOVE IS MY HOME was recorded in England, the other half in Copenhagen, reflecting both his musical roots and his present-day life.

On YOUR LOVE IS MY HOME, Charlie Wood is heard on vocals, piano, and organ, joined by an outstanding international cast: Robin Asplant (piano), Daniel Franck and Lawrence Cottle (bass), Ian Thomas and Cornelia Nilsson (drums), Ayoe Angelica and Sofie Ziedoy (vocals), Villads Littauer Bendixon (violin), Lara Biancalana (cello), and James McMillon (trumpet).

Critics have drawn comparisons to Dylan, Springsteen, Costello, and Waits, but Charlie Wood remains resolutely himself. JazzTimes notes that he “packs the same kind of punch,” while Jazzwise praises his ability to channel “Memphis soul and blues to moving effect.”

Warm, generous, and deeply lived-in, YOUR LOVE IS MY HOME is an album that feels like an open door—inviting listeners into Charlie Wood’s world of groove, grace, and quietly profound songcraft.
